Served 23 years in NYC, in law, in pursuit of greed and other forms of self-indulgence. Appetite exceeded grasp. Missed the 80's bull market, the Clinton bubble years. About the time the bubble burst, I ended up in a halfway house in Pelham, NY, where I am under the watchful eye of my probation officers, Alec Jr., 41/2, Diane, 3, and wife Susan (age secret). They let me out daily to work for them in the City, provided I return at night. But consider this escape hatch: we'll get a group together and head for Spain to buy and operate a clementine ranch. As gentlemen farmers, we'll consume Spanish wine, Cuban cigars and reminisce about the the 6th form letter, Ronnie Clark and the Fowl Dogs. And for the 50th, we can come back as Ugly Americans. Anyway, it beats opening up a restaurant in Sante Fe.
Susan and I got hitched in '95 (Doug, how is that for marrying late?). She works 3 days a week at JP Morgan Chase Private Bank and also manages the household. Susan, her brother and sister (not triplets) all attended Princeton and at one point were all there at the same time. Although born in the US, Susan has dual US-Swiss citizenship as do our kids. Through her, I am now eligible to become a Swiss citizen myself, although I have visited the country but once. This might come in handy in the event we (a) are passengers on a hijacked airline and (b) we become destitute, since we can go to our 'home" canton which is obligated to support us. -Alec
