Having been displaced by American Express in 1992 I found myself with a small mutual fund company in NY called Evergreen, where I started up 3 new funds and managed or co-managed 5 others during the next 8 years. In 1998 we found ourselves relocated by Evergreen to Boston until June 2000, when my group was disbanded. Since, I've been consulting on matters of fixed income portfolios (a euphemism for the structurally unemployed).
In my parallel universe, we moved into a 260 year old home in June `01 just in time for the arrival of Kaitlin's triplet brothers - Jake, Kyle & Quinn -and life has taken a decidedly different turn from what might have been imagined 10 years prior. Coaching, Men's (read; old guys) tennis, skiing and golf are still part of the menu, but retirement is not in my future.
A year ago I managed to get in some quality time with Doug Warren as he was waging his battle against Lymphoma. Despite disappointments and setbacks in his treatments, that Doug was able to maintain a determined, if not positive, outlook was remarkable to witness. At this stage of our lives we have all experienced loss of one kind or another but I took strength from his personal resolve to never give up. In these past 10 years, the “unofficial' SPS Golf Team of Messrs Robinson, Shortall, Colby & Warren (with a cameo from Megear) staged many a memorable battle at a variety of wonderful courses, with lots of stories and laughs shared. The team expects to play on, with Doug always shooting par.
